Currents.is, an image clipper

If you're like me, at some point in your life you used Pinterest a lot. It was one of the best places to find reference images and inspiration for just about any topic. Nowadays its full of slop and popups and ads.

Currents is a new photo clipping app that uses your universal web account. Every image you save is safely stored in your account, which you control. The Currents app provides an experience to view your collections, images, and to explore via search. There is also a browser extension for saving images wherever you find them across the web.

There are no ads, and they have handy moderation settings which allow you to hide any images detected as generated by AI. There is a subscription tier which supports the service and gives access to enhanced search features which have higher operating costs.

Currents is part of the Atmosphere, a new internet of social apps that all work with your Atmosphere account. Because all your images and collections are kept in your account, you never have to worry about Currents turning up the advertising knob or shoving in more AI images than you want to see. If that were to happen, it would create a market opening for someone to build a competing experience. That new app would also show all of your images and collections, just by aggregating and surfacing them from your account.
